What Happens When You Win an Agora Competition?
What Agora winners can expect after a draw, including contact, verification, prize fulfilment and choosing whether their win is publicised.

Winning should not leave you wondering what happens next.
If your entry is selected in an Agora draw, the result is provisional until verification is complete. We then contact you using the details connected to your account, complete the checks needed for the prize, arrange payment or site credit, and ask you to choose whether and how we may publicise your win.
First, the draw result is confirmed#
Before a winner is contacted, we may review the entries included in the competition to make sure the draw is being run from valid entries.
That can include checking eligibility, entry timing, payment status, any required competition question, entry limits and whether entries comply with our rules.
The winner is then selected using the method stated on the relevant competition page. Depending on the competition, that may involve a verifiably random computer process, a live draw, an independently supervised process or another fair method described before entry.
We retain draw evidence such as entry lists, draw logs, recordings and system output where applicable. You can read the full process in our Draws, Winners & Prizes policy.
We contact the winner#
Unless a competition page states otherwise, we aim to complete the draw and make first contact with the winner within 30 minutes of the competition closing or the draw being completed.
We may contact you using the email address, telephone number or account details you provided to Agora.
That 30 minute period is an aim rather than a guarantee. A draw may take longer if, for example, we need to investigate a technical issue, verify entries, resolve a payment issue, process postal entries or deal with something else that affects the fair administration of the draw.
If there is a material delay, our draw policy says we will update the competition page or announce the delay through a reasonable channel.
This is also why keeping your account details current matters. If your email address or telephone number has changed, update it before the draw rather than waiting until after a result is announced.
Winning is provisional until verification is complete#
Being selected does not mean we release a prize without checks.
A winner is provisional until verification has been completed. Depending on the competition and prize, we may need to verify:
- your identity
- your age
- your address
- ownership of your Agora account
- payment method ownership
- your eligibility for the competition
- compliance with entry limits and the competition terms
- bank account ownership for a cash prize
We may also require a signed prize acceptance form or other information that is reasonably necessary for legal, tax or fraud prevention purposes.
The purpose of these checks is straightforward: the prize needs to go to the eligible person who actually held the winning entry.
How long do you have to respond?#
Unless the relevant competition page states otherwise, you have 14 calendar days from our first notification to respond and complete the required verification or prize acceptance steps.
If we cannot contact you, you do not respond in time, verification fails, you refuse the prize or you are disqualified under the competition rules, we may select an alternative winner.
An alternative winner will usually be selected from the same valid entry pool using the same selection method, unless the competition rules or circumstances require another fair approach.
The important distinction is that a winning ticket cannot simply remain unclaimed indefinitely. There needs to be a clear process for confirming the winner and, where necessary, moving to an alternative valid winner.
What happens with a cash prize?#
Cash prizes are normally paid by bank transfer to the verified winner.
Unless the competition page states otherwise, we aim to make that payment within 48 hours after you have responded, completed verification and provided valid bank details.
We may require evidence that the nominated bank account belongs to you or is a joint account that you hold. We do not normally pay cash prizes into another person's bank account.
The 48 hour period begins after the required winner checks and valid bank details are complete. It is not a promise that every winner will receive money within 48 hours of the draw itself.
There is also a difference between our maximum stated target and what can happen in practice.
Our published winners page records the £200 cash winner from 30 August 2026 as having been paid 11 seconds after verification. That is a real example of a completed payout, but it should not be read as a guaranteed payment time for future winners.
What if the prize is site credit?#
Site credit follows a different fulfilment process.
Once the winner has been verified, site credit is applied to the winner's Agora Competitions account rather than transferred to a bank account.
The individual competition page should explain the amount and any conditions that apply. Site credit may have an expiry date, may be subject to entry limits or responsible play controls, and is not normally withdrawable as cash.
Always read the prize description for the specific competition because the individual competition page can contain terms that apply only to that prize.
You choose whether your win is publicised#
We do not automatically publish your personal details because you have won. We first ask you to record your publicity choices, and agreeing to publicity is not a condition of receiving your prize.
Through your Agora account, you can choose the individual details you are happy for us to use when announcing your win. These may include:
- your agreed display name
- your town or broad area
- photographs you have supplied or approved
- video clips you have approved
- an exact quote you have approved
Select only the uses you agree to. If you do not select any, we record that you have declined publicity. Your full address is never published as part of this process.
Where you do agree, we use only the details covered by your choices. Winner photographs, videos, quotes and interviews are not automatically required just because you have won.
Can you change your publicity choices?#
Yes.
You can view or change your publicity choices, or withdraw all publicity consent, at any time through My Account. You can also contact winners@agoracompetitions.co.uk for help.
Withdrawing consent does not affect your prize. If your winner details have already been published, withdrawing all publicity consent through your account removes them from the public winners results.
There can still be circumstances where winner information needs to be supplied privately to the Advertising Standards Authority, regulators, law enforcement, courts, payment providers or another competent body. This is separate from publicising your win.
How transparency works when publicity is optional#
Winner publicity is only one part of showing that a competition was administered fairly.
Agora publishes draw information and maintains records that may include the entry list, winning number, draw logs and recordings. This allows the draw process to be checked without making publicity a condition of receiving a prize.
Where a winner has chosen to take part in publicity, their agreed details may also appear on our winners page.
Transparency does not change who wins. It makes the administration of the result easier to understand.
What should you do if you win?#
The practical steps are simple:
- Check that the message is genuinely from Agora Competitions.
- Respond using the instructions we provide.
- Complete the requested identity and eligibility checks.
- For a cash prize, provide valid bank details for an account you own.
- Record your publicity choices in your account and change or withdraw them whenever you wish.
- Keep an eye out for confirmation that the prize has been paid or applied to your account.
If anything about the claim process is unclear, contact support@agoracompetitions.co.uk.
The takeaway#
Winning an Agora competition starts a short confirmation process rather than ending at the moment your ticket is drawn.
We select the winner using the method stated for the competition, make contact, verify that the correct eligible person holds the winning entry and fulfil the prize. Before publicising any winner details, we ask for consent and use only the details the winner has agreed to share.
For most winners, the key figures to remember are 30 minutes for our first-contact aim, 14 calendar days to respond and complete verification, and up to 48 hours for our cash payment aim once verification and valid bank details are complete, unless the individual competition page states otherwise.
